Kris Orlowski, Bellingham native and world-recognized singer/songwriter, kicked off the Seattle Sounds Concert Series at the Seattle Center’s Chihuly Garden & Glass Museum this past Thursday. Orlowski has toured with the likes of Noah Gunderson, Jamestown Revival, and Ivan & Alyosha. His songs have been featured on numerous TV shows including a performance last Fall on the CW’s Hart of Dixie. While his music career has brought him around the globe, he calls Seattle home.
If you were not at the show on Thursday, you missed a rare, in-town, solo performance by Kris Orlowski. The unique combination of Kris's elevating vocals and dreamy, indie folk guitar added to the visually stunning venue of the Chihuly Garden & Glass Museum. The experience was unforgettable.
In true Seattle fashion, the rain required this summer concert to be moved from the outdoor garden into the Glass House; a 40’ tall re-imagined green house with cathedral-like acoustics and massive, wavy, vibrant glass art suspended overhead. The audience wasn’t typical for a hometown show--the museum draws tourists from all over the world. Many languages filled the venue as the sound check started and settled once the performance began. Mid-set, the room was quiet enough for Kris to leave the PA system behind and walk about while he sang, at once standing on a chair encircled by the audience.
A few things to note: Plan ahead for your visit to the Seattle Sounds Concert series by arriving a little before 6pm. There will likely be a line at the door of museum visitors. Consider getting your ticket at 6pm when admission is $22 (ten dollars cheaper in the evening). This will allow you at least 30 minutes to explore the art exhibit and garden before you grab seats and enjoy the show. On a sunny day, the performance will be outside with beverages and light bites available for purchase.
